Francis Joseph Hemsher, 78, passed away peacefully with family present while listening to his favorite music. Born in Philadelphia on May 18, 1941, he was the son of the late Alice Louise (née Massimo) and Joseph Francis Hemsher. He obtained his B.S. from Carnegie Mellon University. Francis was a published expert on scalable vector graphics (SVG) and the author and creator of multiple interactive global mapping programs and websites. He was a member of the American Association of Variable Star Observers and the Founding Officer of the Vulcan Mountain Foundation, located in Julian, CA. He loved hiking, fishing, skiing, cooking, reading, spending time with his family and good cigars.
Francis is survived by his loving daughters Dana Peelor, Paige Gragan, and Leigh Jane Suehr. He is also survived by four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
