Elaine E. (Catherwood) Viggiano

Elaine E. (Catherwood) Viggiano, age 72, passed away on Monday, December 26, 2022.  Wife of 46 years to Ralph; mother of Marie (Jose) Pocasangre and Emily Viggiano; grandmother of Rose, Jose, and Ruby; sister of Robert Catherwood and Ann (Michael) Wallace; sister-in-law of Sam (Elaine) Viggiano and Richard (Karen) Viggiano. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Dorothy Catherwood, her parents-in-law, Ralph and Betty Viggiano, and her sister-in-law, Janette Catherwood.
 
Elaine was born in West Deer Township, Pennsylvania and shared many memories of growing up on a family farm there.  She studied medical technology, received her master’s degree, and worked in several hospitals in the Washington, DC area.  After having her two daughters, she continued her education to earn her teaching certificate.  She went on to teach 8th grade science until her retirement from Maryland’s Howard County Public School System in June of 2008.  
 
Elaine then resided in Sewickley, PA, where she was treasurer at her church and enjoyed many hobbies including sewing, knitting, crocheting, painting, and gardening.  She was an avid reader, a wonderful cook, and traveled to many places including Spain and Australia.  Elaine cherished spending time with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, extended family, and her friends.
 
A service will be held on January 14, 2023 at 2pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sewickley with a reception to follow in the church's fellowship hall.  Elaine requested that in lieu of flowers all donations be made to her church, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church 616 Washington Street Sewickley, PA 15143.  Arrangements entrusted to R.D. Copeland Funeral Home, Irvine Chapel, Sewickley.
