Edith M. Farley

Edith “Ninie” (Tolbert) Farley, 75, a Sewickley resident for the last 60 years, passed on Monday, January 20, 2020 at Heritage Valley Sewickley surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Pittsburgh on April 23, 1944 to the late William and Ann Sophie (Salava) Tolbert. On June 5, 2012, she was preceded by the love of her life and husband of 50 years, Richard Albert Farley, Sr. Beloved mother of Karen (Alan) Morrow of Moon Township, Richard A. Farley, Jr. of Sewickley, Barbara (Michael Como) Interval of Franklin Park  and Susan (Jon) Creese of Beaver; grandmother of Richard (Victoria) Farley III, William Morrow, Matthew (Shelva) Morrow, Gabrielle Interval, Michael Interval, Jack Creese, Emma Creese, and Owen Creese; great grandmother to Bailey. For 35 years, Ninie worked for Sewickley Valley Hospital and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Edith (Ninie) was loved by many, and admired for her generosity of spirit. She loved to cook, whether for a small gathering of family and friends or for the many large functions she catered at the Sewickley VFW throughout the years. Her humor and playfulness was contagious, especially when she was trading jokes with her beloved husband, Richard. She did the holidays in style, and was well-known for wearing hilarious, creative Halloween outfits or dancing the night away at Christmas parties.

Edith held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great granddaughter, who she doted over in later years. She always had their favorite snacks on hand for unannounced visits, and would even share her favorite Entenmann's cakes with them. She was kind and caring and always put her family before herself. Most of all, she taught them how to love, how to laugh, and how to live.

We know she is dancing in heaven with her beloved Richard and her heart is now complete. Memorial visitation Saturday (February 1) from 1 PM until time of service at 2 PM at Copeland’s Sewickley, 702 Beaver St. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations in her name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
