Dr. Conway Lackman Obituary

Dr. Conway Lee Lackman, 83, a longtime resident of Pittsburgh and New York City, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2021 at UPMH Shadyside. Son of the late Herman W. Lackman and Helen Felton Lackman of Cincinnati, Ohio, and brother of his late sister Linda Drais of Cincinnati, who died only seven months earlier, he is survived by his cherished daughters, Eleanor M. Lackman, an attorney in New York, and Abigail C. Lackman, a U.S. Foreign Service officer currently in Colombia, South America; his sister, Charlotte Lackman Weber of Arlington Heights, Illinois; and his beloved nieces and nephews, Katie Weber of Seattle and Michael Weber of Pleasanton, CA, and David Drais of Weston, CT. An Associate Professor in the Duquesne University College of Business for many years, where he won awards for teaching and scholarship, Dr. Lackman published many scholarly articles in the field of business and economics. At the time of his death, he was collaborating on a history of the Federal Reserve Bank.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio to a family previously famous for the Lackman Brewery in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood , Dr. Lackman graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University.  He received his master’s degree in marketing at Arizona State University and Ph.D in economics and statistics from the University of Cincinnati. At Ohio Wesleyan, he was a pitcher on the 1958 baseball team that was conference champion and the only unbeaten college baseball team in the country that year. As a high school pitcher in Cincinnati, he defeated several pitchers who had successful careers in the major leagues. A quick wit who never met a pun he didn’t like, and the more outrageous the better, he loved his family, singing Gershwin and Cole Porter classics, ballroom dancing, baseball, the Cincinnati Reds and the study of economics, fairly much in that order. He and his sisters remained close through all his years.
Dr. Lackman will be interred at St Simon’s Episcopal Church in Arlington Heights, IL. Contributions to the Ivy Center for Advanced Brain Tumor Treatment, Swedish Hospital, 550 17th Avenue, Suite 540, Seattle, WA 98122, or the American Heart Association, 300 S Riverside Plaza, Chicago, IL 60606 are welcomed.
