Dorothy "Dotti" Miller Obituary

Obituary for Dorothy Lausberg Miller (1947 – 2025)

Dorothy Marie (“Dotti”) Lausberg Miller; Of Masonic Village of Sewickley, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025. She was born in Arnold, Pennsylvania, on October 28, 1947, the daughter of the late Robert and Alice Mae (Smith) Lausberg. Dotti grew up in Lower Burrell, PA and graduated from Kiski High School in 1965, in the top 10 of a class of 600. She was a recipient of the Allegheny Ludlum Scholarship. The first in her family to graduate from college, Dotti was a proud 1969 graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, earning a degree in Rehabilitation Education. She worked as a social worker at Harmarville Rehabilitation Center, and later earned her CLU and ChFC certificates from the insurance industry when she changed careers. As a financial planner, Dotti worked as an agent for Prudential Life Insurance. In 1993, Dotti was recognized by the Commonwealth of PA for becoming the first female president of the 1500 member Pittsburgh Life Underwriters. She was later marketing director at New England Financial, where she won the Master Marketing Director Award twice.  She held the position of compliance officer at Met Life from 2005 until her retirement.

Dotti was one of the few female “Press Old News Boys”. For many years, Dotti organized and hosted an upscale fashion show, “Autumn Magic”, raising money for The Marty Ostrow Children’s Cancer Center of Children’s Hospital, for which she received a commendation from the PA State Senate for her efforts.

Dotti enjoyed reading, shopping, bridge, doing crossword puzzles, winning at Scrabble, gourmet cooking, going to the beach, and spending time with friends and family, especially her husband, Rick.

Dotti is survived by her husband, John Frederick (Rick) Miller; sisters, Patricia (Geoffrey) Osan and Cynthia Lausberg (Robert Huddart); and sister-in-law, Anne Miller Yannessa (Joe). She will always be remembered as “Aunt Dot” to her nieces, Rebecca Osan, Christina Osan Marlier, Alison (Donny) Zappa, and Elizabeth (Nickolas) Treadway, and nephews, Andrew (Brandy Newell) Osan, and Joseph and John Yannessa. Dotti is also survived by 4 great-nephews and 3 great-nieces.

Dotti was preceded in death by her parents.

The family would like to thank the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice at Wexford for providing excellent and compassionate care for Dotti during her final days.

Services will be private and handled by Copeland Funeral Home, Sewickley, PA. Private burial will be at The Cemetery of the Alleghenies, as her husband Rick is a Navy veteran. A memorial for Dotti will be held at a later date.

The family requests that donations be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice at Wexford, or the charity of your choice.
