Dorothy M. Devine, age 89 of Sewickley, PA, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully at Villa St. Joseph and Good Samaritan Hospice on May 30, 2025, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Sharpsville, PA on July 22, 1935, to the late Joseph and Helen (Lucas) Gurgovits. She lived a life filled with love, kindness, and quiet strength. She was known for her warmth, generosity, and sense of humor, touching the lives of many. She devoted her life to her family and was always available to lend a helping hand or share a comforting word.
After graduating from Sewickley High School, Dorothy worked as a secretary at Alcoa and later worked for 25 years in the Medical Records department at Sewickley Valley Hospital.
She was married for 62 years to the late Richard W. Devine and together they had four daughters - Deborah (the late Michael) Ference, Susan (Edward) Devine-Halo, Barbara Devine and Diane (Gregory) Ray. She is also survived by five grandchildren - Christopher Ference, Lindsay (Dr. Michael) Mahon, Timothy (Kelley) Ray, Kristen Ray and Marisa Ray; two step-grandchildren - Dr. Julia (Michael) Knerr and Olivia Halo; two great-grandchildren - Angelo and Adelina Persichetti and step-great-grandchild Joseph Halo; sister-in-law Carol (late Robert) Sery and two sisters.
Dorothy enjoyed bowling and traveling to Ireland, Scotland, Austria, Germany, Alaska, and the Caribbean islands. She will always be remembered for Sunday dinners with her family, holiday dinners of stuffed cabbage, her famous nut rolls, meatloaf and potato salad.
Visitation will be at R.D. Copeland Funeral Home, Ltd., Irvine Chapel, 702 Beaver Street, Sewickley on Monday from 4 pm to 8 pm.
A mass of Christian burial will take place at of Divine Redeemer Parish - St. James Church, 200 Walnut Street, Sewickley Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at 10:30 am, followed by interment in St. James Cemetery.
