Carter, Dorothy J.
My heart is brimming with tears. I lost my Mom, my best friend on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at St. Clair Hospital in the early morning. Dorothy was born, like many of us from Coraopolis, in Sewickley Valley Hospital on Oct. 4, 1934. She was one of five children born to the late James and Florence (Smith) Carter. She was a life-long resident of Coraopolis and member of St. Paul AME Zion Church where she played piano for services. Her musical skill, playing piano, was reading music, as well as playing by ear. Dorothy was a postal carrier in the Coraopolis and Moon Area. She knew her clients well, actually watched over them especially when their routines changed unexpectedly. Baking was something she loved to do, and this led her to bake for local restaurants as far as downtown Pittsburgh, her specialty was pastries, rum cake, yellow cake, and Christmas Cookies for everyone! In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Pamela Carter Love, her sister Della Jones, and her brother Donald Carter. She is survived by her devoted and loving daughter Darlene Massie, sisters Lydia Jones and Eleanor McKinney, 4 grandchildren and many great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family. No one knows my heart ache I feel. I loved my Mom! We were a real duo and always enjoyed each other’s company. She made the holidays incredibly special as I grew up. Due to Covid-19, a celebration of her life will be held later. Arrangements by Copeland’s.
