Donald Alan McCormick, of Sewickley, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025. Don was born May 26, 1940, in Pittsburgh, and lived most of his life in Beechview. He was predeceased by his parents Everett and Hildegarde McCormick and his sister Patricia McCabe. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Dorothy. Don graduated from South Hills High School in 1958 and joined the Air Force in 1962. Upon his return in 1966, he worked for Mellon Bank. In 1967, he married his wife, Dorothy. They went to night school at Pitt, and he later went to IUP for his MBA.
Don worked for J&L Steel and Hussey Metals before joining Allegheny Ludlum in 1972 as a credit manager. In his years with them, he was involved with a local group of credit managers (NACM) and retired as Board Chairman. He retired in 1998 and has enjoyed many years of retirement. Don joined the SHHSAA in 1974 and served as its President for about 20 years. He wrote the Editor’s Comments for the Sesame News for about 30 years. He was also a volunteer at WQED. During that time, he was a guest announcer several times and also appeared with Chris Fennimore on one of his cooking shows.
Since his retirement in 1998, he has travelled a lot and spent 10 winters in Arizona. He and Dorothy went to Hawaii a couple of times while living in Arizona and moved back to the Pittsburgh area in 2014.
In accordance with Don’s wishes, service and internment will be private. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
