Dolores Anna Barcaskey

Dolores Anna Barcaskey, aged 97, passed on December 18, 2024, in Moon Township, Pennsylvania. 

Born on January 17, 1927 Dolores dedicated much of her life to the field of nursing, having graduated from the Sewickley Valley Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. She spent her entire career at the Sewickley Valley Hospital where she was instrumental in starting the Blood Bank, which she managed for many years.

It was this service to others that lead her to first care for her brother David, then her mother Hilda and later for a dear friend. Additionally, she helped with and baby sat her great nieces and nephews.

Her younger brother David held a special place in her heart. The two of them spent many days at Forbes Field cheering on the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Dolores was a devout member of St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church in Moon Township where she actively participated in various church activities and responsibilities. She made many friends who remember her dearly and will miss her sharp sense of humor and leadership. She and several friends routinely joined Fr. Dompka on many flying trips.

Dolores enjoyed spending the winters at her Florida home, the highlight of which was when her great-niece Breanna would drive her there in her Cadillac. 

She was preceded in death by her father, Leo; her mother, Hilda; her sister, Betty Jane (Robert) Pieffer and her brother, David. Dolores is survived by her brother, James and wife Emma Jean, four nephews Michael (Colleen), Matthew, Martin (Kim) and Mitchell. She especially enjoyed her great-nieces and nephews Breanna, Benjamin, Patrick, Nathan, Jonathan, David, Allyson, Lauren and Owen and her great-great nieces and nephews. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Margaret Mary Church on Monday, December 23 at 10:00am followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
