Dina Madia of Coraopolis, PA, age 96, passed peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2025. She was born May 31, 1929. Dina lived her life in the same house on 6th Avenue in Coraopolis. She is the youngest child of Annina and Pietro Cortese who immigrated to America and purchased the house on 6th Avenue because it was close to McKinley Elementary School. There they raised five children: Mary, Nick, Tony, Gilda and Dina.
Dina was a devout Catholic and attended St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church. She is predeceased by her husband, Samuel Dempsey Madia (deceased May 31, 1989). They met at a St. Joseph Church Novena service. They married on May 29, 1954, and together they raised three children: Denise (Dean) Romasco, Donna (Richard) Prata and Darrell (Leslie) Madia. She is survived by seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Dina graduated 3rd in her class from Coraopolis High School and worked several jobs before settling into the job of wife and mother. Later in life, she continued to seek an active life and returned to work as the scheduling administrator for the Laughlin Children’s Center in Sewickley, PA and then as an administrative assistant at Pro-Tech in Coraopolis until the age of 92.
Dina enjoyed trips to the beach and watching fireworks. Her greatest love was for her family, preparing meals, baking bread, making pasta and cookies. To her family and many friends, she was affectionately known as Grambo, a homage to her determined way of persuading you to eat more.
Dina lived a full and long life as the matriarch of an extended family. She will be missed by her family and all who knew her. She waited patiently to be called to God. The family wishes to thank all those that loved and cared for her in her final years at Concordia at Villa St. Joseph in Baden, PA.
Friends will be received on Wednesday 4 – 8 pm at R. D. Copeland, Ltd., 867 Fifth Avenue, Coraopolis where a Funeral Prayer will be held on Thursday at 10:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass in St Joseph Church Coraopols.
