David Acheson Nimick

David Acheson Nimick September 29, 1924 - June 8, 2026 David died of natural causes at his home, Masonic Village of Sewickley, to which he and his beloved wife, June, had moved in 2017. Predeceasing him were his parents, Francis and Mary Nimick, sister Eleanor, and brothers Francis Jr., Charles, and Reade. Brother George resides in Florida. Still living are his children and their spouses – Susan (Jim Holland), David (Angie Leprohon), and Carol (Jeff Gold) – and numerous nieces and nephews. Robin Hill in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, was his family’s home and where numerous family events took place. After graduating from Phillips Exeter Academy in June 1942 and matriculating at Princeton University, he enlisted in the US Navy, which he served for fourteen years through World War II and the Korean conflict. He later earned a masters degree in business at Harvard University. After his honorable discharge in March 1954 as a LT, SC, USN, David and June settled in Sewickley, Pennsylvania. He was hired by the Rust Engineering Company of Pittsburgh, where he had a number of executive assignments, including a three-year stint in London, and helped manage the Rust Philanthropic Foundation. In Sewickley, David had a long engagement with volunteer work, most importantly with the Quaker Valley School District. He served on the School Board from 1977 to 1991 and then continued his support of the district by working in the classroom and starting two educational foundations that disperse funds for Quaker Valley students. David also enjoyed tennis, platform tennis, golf, downhill skiing, and backpacking in Montana with his children. David developed an addiction (as he called it) to needlepointing starting in 1980. He found great satisfaction being a “Practitioner of Textile Arts” and created over one hundred pieces, some large wall hangings. Many of these needlepoint works are in the Sewickley Public Library, local schools, and the homes of family and friends. For those close to him, David shared his love of learning, a zest for life, a kindness of heart, a delight in games, a selfless generosity, and independence of spirit. He was loved in local community circles for his philanthropy and involvement in educational and cultural organizations. Memorial gifts may be made to Moon Township for the benefit of the Robin Hill Park Trust or to any education or conservation charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to R.D.
