David McCormick Obituary

David C. McCormick aged 86 passed away peacefully the morning of November 7, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones at his home in Center Township, PA.  He was born on May 23, 1938 in Pittsburgh to Joseph and Margaret McCormick.  A graduate of Crafton High School, he was voted the best dancer and was both a gentle giant and a tough cookie - he had his teeth knocked out while playing football.  Dave was happily married for 62 years to his beloved bride Patricia McCormick who was always by his side.  He was a proud resident of Moon Township, PA for the longest period of his life where they found an extended family of friends and neighbors on Burch Drive.  The polka and other cul-de-sac parties are legendary, and the Pittsburgh Steelers watch parties in his man cave were a staple from the 70s through the 90s.  He worked briefly for Cutler-Hammer but found his working “home” selling cable and dedicating his customer-service and electrician-like skills to his clients at Anixter for 32 years followed by a post-retirement gig at Lowes where he loved to help people.  Dave (aka Pappy) was known to everyone as a photography buff, brought his cameras everywhere, and provided all of us with years of photos showcasing family memories from holidays, the beach and other vacations, hummingbirds, flowers, grandkids, etc.  He loved watching his kids and grandkids grow up and play sports; he was their biggest fan and rarely missed a wrestling match, football game, volleyball or soccer match, or sled hockey tournament.  Dave and Pat devoted many years handling the Moon Area District Football/Wrestling/Cheerleading photographs/statues/pins, and he was well known in the community as a man of integrity and the protector of many with an incredibly strong handshake, a loving smile, an undeniable sweet tooth, and a quirky sense of humor.  He was patriotic, a history buff, and he watched the movie Gettysburg more times than can be counted.  But Dave will be most remembered for always putting his family first and letting everyone know that he loved them on a daily basis.  We are grateful for his life, and his spoken blessing will be missed at the Thanksgiving Day table.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Joseph McCormick; Brother and Sister-in-Law William and Dolores McCormick; Brother and Sister-in-Law Robert and Betty McCormick; Brother Jack McCormick; Sister-in-Law Donna Murphy; Nephew Michael McCormick; Nephew Chris McCormick; and Nephew Dale McCormick.   He will be greatly missed by his wife Patricia; Son David McCormick; Daughter and Son-in-law Kathleen and Timothy Yetsick; Son and Daughter-in-Law Joseph and Melissa McCormick; Granddaughters Saramarie, Kristen, Abigail and Samantha; Great granddaughter Kendall; Sister-in-Law Delores (Sis) McCormick; Brother and Sister-in-Law Edward and Ada McCormick; Brother-in-Law Dave Murphy; Brother-in-Law Dennis Drost; Cousin (raised like a brother) Arthur Kerin; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Dave was a member of Mary Queen of Saints Parish.   Friends will be received at the R.D. Copeland Funeral Home, Moon Twp on Sunday, (11/10) from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Frances Cabrini Church, Aliquippa on Monday at 10 AM. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Entombment will follow at the Resurrection Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to: Spina Bifida Association of Western PA (SBAWP) at 3000 Stonewood Dr #100, Wexford, PA 15090 or https://sbawp.org.
