David Benes Obituary

It is with profound sadness that I share the passing of my husband, David Benes, who passed away on May 17th, 2024, at the age of 51. David possessed tremendous passion along with a brilliance and dimensions within his soul that I rarely ever witness.

David’s life was illuminated with incredible depth and richness acquired because of his adventures from around the world through both work and play. When I first met David, one of the very first things he ever said to me was “I can do everything”. There was truly nothing he could not do and the confidence within his soul was just unbelievable. He attended Oxford Cambridge. He spoke 8 languages. He was a professional rugby player. He held many jobs of every caliber. All of them being almost completely unrelated. He even held a management position in the Czech Republic. His work ethic was like none other. He received such deep satisfaction from bringing perfection to whatever job was brought his way. Some of his other jobs involved operating heavy equipment, installing granite kitchens, landscaping and he was a caretaker. David’s final job was working for “Center for Hope” and he facilitated conversations with people from other countries. He also did whatever was needed in the way of delivering food to people. He shared many times his dream of opening his own restaurant featuring his renowned goulash and Czech cooking. It was unbelievable how gifted he was in so many areas including our personal Chef David. We will miss your garlic pasta, David.

David’s deepest desire and dream was to become a United States citizen. He accomplished his dream and became a United States citizen on September 27th, 2022.

There was one more important life longing he was working toward and wanted so deeply to reunite with his daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter here in America. He always made time to connect with them through video calls. Witnessing the depth and love within their many phone calls was heartwarming.

Dear Dad, you were such a big worker and dreamer. You had visions, dreams and plans that will never be fulfilled. You were a great father-in-law to my husband Michael and grandfather to my daughter, Ida. I will forever respect and admire your passion, emotions, and commitment to expressing your deep discontent with all wrongdoing surrounding communism and bureaucracy. My wish in honor of your passing is that anyone sharing deep feelings politically know that their voice matters.

I am grateful that I was able to spend my childhood with you and then the last 4 years of your life at least remotely through video calls. I thank you for your wisdom, trust, support, and life force that you passed on to me.

I love you, Tereza
