Daniel W. McKenna, 77, of Coraopolis, formerly of Mt. Lebanon, passed peacefully on Wednesday morning, May 13, 2020 at Manor Care, Bethel Park. He was born in Gary Indiana on September 20, 1942, one of three sons to the late Thomas and Margaret (Lee) McKenna. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Brian McKenna and his brothers, Patrick, and Richard McKenna.
Daniel met the love of his life at a YMCA dance, Cheryl (Bates) McKenna. They married in 1964 and made their home in Coraopolis. Daniel is survived by his beloved wife for 56 years, Cheryl (Bates) McKenna; loving father of Eric (Natalie Cumpston) McKenna; cherished grandfather of Austin Major and Gwendolyn Leigh; well-loved former daughter-in-law, Diana Griglak; loved like a brother, brother-in-law Donald Terry Bates..
Daniel was a graduate of South Hills Catholic and went on to earn his bachelor’s in Business in Administration from Point Park College and his MBA from Duquesne University. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. Daniel was owner and operator of Practical People Contractor from January 1989 to May 2015.
Daniel loved to mentor, and he was dedicated to youth development. He also was an avid hiker.
Daniel requested cremation with no visitation. A Memorial Mass will be held later at St. Joseph when COVID-19 restrictions permit. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Daniel was always thinking of others and making a positive impact locally. We think, in lieu of flowers, by making donations in his name to our local food bank, West Hills Food Bank, he can make the positive impact during this uncertain time in our history.
