Curtis James Brown
Ben Avon, formerly of Ellwood City
Curtis James Brown passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2020.
After graduating from Lincoln High in Elwood City, Curt joined the United State Navy where he served on submarines around the world. Upon returning to civilian life Curt returned to Western PA, eventually moving to Sewickley where he sold luxury cars at Ascot Imported Cars. He went on to found Curt Brown Racing.
A lifelong athlete, Curt was a passionate racer. As a runner, behind the wheel of a car, or as a competitive cyclist, Curt made many great friends. Most importantly, he met Kate his wife of nearly 21 years while running.
Curt was well regarded for his undeniable obsession for efficiency and improving performance. He built Curt Brown Racing to serve motorsports enthusiasts worldwide, and was well regarded for his obsession for improving performance. Curt was considered by many to be a “legend” and was regarded by his customers as fair, honest and hardworking.
He brought this same obsession to cycling, where in competitive races, Curt would often outperform cyclists decades younger than him. When not racing, Curt was regularly trying to secure KOMs throughout Western Pennsylvania and in his favorite travel destination of Tucson, AZ.
Curt was a devoted lover of animals, making time to visit zoos, animal sanctuaries and animal rehabilitation centers while caring for his pets throughout his life.
While Curt was able to collect multiple awards and accolades over his career, he will be remembered by many for his unique sense of humor - “push harder on the pedal” - and for the time he spent to mentor and help out enthusiasts of motorsports, cycling, and running. In all aspects of his life, Curt “put the hammer down.”
Curt is survived by his wife Kate Rollins Brown of Ben Avon and his father James E. Brown of Ellwood City. Curt was preceded in death by his mother Marjorie L. Brown (Singloub) also of Ellwood City.
Visitation and service will follow CDC guidelines for COVID-19 (Masks required and maximum of 25 guests) at Copeland’s Sewickley.
