Carolyn Maratta Obituary

With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Carolyn M. Maratta, who departed this world at the age of 83, surrounded by loved ones at the Masonic Village in Sewickley, Pennsylvania on Friday, August 1, 2025.

Born in 1942 to Theresa and Carl Millner, Carolyn grew up in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, with her late siblings, Bob, Carl and Margaret. She was a woman of uncommon spirit - funny, fearless, intelligent, and full of life. Her presence lit up every room, and her laughter warmed the hearts of all who knew her. With a quick wit, a generous heart, and an unwavering devotion to those she loved, Carolyn made every moment matter.

Her first and forever love was her late husband, Dr. Jan W. Maratta. After his passing eight years ago, Carolyn always spoke of him with affection, keeping his memory alive through stories that inspired and comforted. Their love was the foundation of a beautiful life together and a growing family.

Carolyn and Jan raised five daughters, each of whom carries her strength, resilience, and vibrant energy. As a mother, Carolyn was a fierce protector, a trusted confidante, and a guiding light. Carolyn had the business sense to manage their farm on Coraopolis Heights Road and her husband’s physician office. She had the grammar and spelling skills to edit school essays and win every Scrabble game, even in her later years. She had the etiquette knowledge and cooking skills to host everything from weekday lunch breaks on the farm to Sunday family dinners to Christmas feasts, baby showers and weddings.

Her family grew to include 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren – with each addition bringing Carolyn immeasurable joy. As a grandmother, she was affectionately known as “Mommal” (mom of all). As a great-grandmother, she was “GG.”  She was present for every milestone she could attend, always the loudest cheerleader at games, recitals, and celebrations. Her family was her greatest love, pride, and joy.

Carolyn had a magical way of brightening the world around her. She could turn a bad day good and an ordinary day extraordinary…with a smile, a hug, a song, a phone call, a thoughtful text, a surprise gift, or an impromptu shopping spree. She was the heart and soul of her family, their sunshine and now their angel, watching over them from above as she did so lovingly here on earth.

She leaves behind family and friends who adored her, a lifetime of cherished memories and laughter, and a legacy of strength, joy, and love that will echo through generations. She taught how to love fiercely, laugh deeply, and live boldly.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Carolyn's memory by buying a gift for one of your friends or family members - something they don’t need but would like, and, if they love it, buy two, just as Carolyn would have done.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 10 am to 4 pm with a prayer service at 1 pm, at R. D. Copeland Funeral Home, Inc., 981 Brodhead Road, Moon Township, PA 15108.

Carolyn's love will be deeply missed by her daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nephews who will cherish warm memories of her unforgettable spirit. If you wish to reach out with condolences, feel free to connect with any of the family members listed below.
