Caroline Gaffney, 77, of Moon Twp., passed away surrounded by her family in the comfort of her home on Saturday, January 16, 2021. Born January 19, 1943 in Hamilton, Scotland, she was the daughter of the later Peter and Agnes (Howitt) Fitzpatrick.
Caroline attended Catholic high school in Scotland and subsequently became a Registered Nurse. She graduated from Stobhill Hospital near Glasgow before her marriage to Edward Gaffney on January 21, 1967. Three of the couples daughters were born in Scotland before the family immigrated to Montreal, Canada in 1972. A fourth daughter was born in Quebec before the family moved to the USA in 1977 where the couple’s fifth daughter was born.
Caroline devoted most of her time over these years in bringing up her five daughters.
At times she worked as a nurse in both Scotland and the USA. She also volunteered as a “Pink Lady” at a hospital in the Atlanta area and became a member of the St Vincent de Paul society.
The family has lived in Moon Township since 1992 where Caroline worked for Porter’s Pharmacy and at the St James church office in Sewickley. She was a volunteer at the convent at OLSH, Sewickley Hospital Auxiliary and became a member of “The Red Hatters”.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, John Burns.
Caroline will be remembered and missed by her devoted husband, Edward Gaffney; her five cherished daughters, Jacqueline (Jim) Hebdon of CA, Patricia (Byron) Waldrop of AL, Paula (Christopher) Riggins of GA, Jennifer (Kerry) Maloney of TN and Kathryn (Eric) Fogle of PA; nine beloved grandchildren, Summerann, Adam, Grace, Henry, Jimmy, Jack, Ben, Bridget and Caroline; two beloved great-grandchildren, Seraphina and Emerson; and her sister, Marlene Burns of the Netherlands.
Visitation Tuesday, January 19, 2021 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm Copeland’s Moon Twp., 981 Brodhead Road. Morning Prayers will be said Wednesday, January 20th at 9:45am at the Moon Twp funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am Divine Redeemer - St. James, Sewickley. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Moon Twp.
