Carole (Olson) Hitztaler

Carole Hitztaler, 88, of Moon Township, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 03, 2025 following a long battle with lung cancer which she fought with courage, grace, and determination.  She was born on October 17, 1936, and was the daughter of the late Wilford (Duke) and Elizabeth (Thomas) Olson. 

Carole was known for her kindness and generosity.  Always willing to go the extra mile for anyone she came across during her day.  She worked for many years for UPMC and after retiring from UPMC she continued helping others as an in-home aide with At Home Senior Services. 

Carole was a very devoted and loving mother, and her family meant everything to her.  She is survived by her daughters Rosemarie (Bill) Dombi and Diane (Todd) Bickel and son Bob (Michelle) Hitztaler, Australia.  She was a loving gram to Emily (Travis) Howe, Alex (Erica) Dombi, Bethany (Phil) Rau, Stephen Bickel, Tim Dombi and Alyssa Jade Hitzaler and she delighted in her great-grandson Owen Rau.  Also, part of her life were her special “grandchildren” Ashlynn, Colin and Evan.

As we reflect on her life, we are reminded of the many moments of joy and laughter shared. She loved family get togethers, especially holiday gatherings.  Carole enjoyed travelling and visited Bob in the various places he lived including England, Turkey as well as many trips to Australia which she cherished.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to her caring friends, Pat and Barb, who visited Carole so faithfully as well as Dr. Remtulla and the staff at Hillman Cancer Center and the caring staff at Tapestry Senior Living.  A special thank you also for the loving care she received from Erica and Rose at Three Oaks Hospice. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a homeless charity of your choice. 

We are comforted knowing that our mom lived a life full of love and compassion and is now with the Lord.  Her journey in this life may have ended and she will be dearly missed but her memory will remain forever in our hearts.

Friends and family will gather on Friday, February 07, 2025 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at R.D. Copeland 981 Brodhead Road, Moon Township, PA 15108.  A service will be held at R.D. Copeland, Saturday, February 08, 2025 at 11:00 am.
