Bill Economou, 92 passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Piraeus, Greece on February 23, 1934, Bill lived a life rooted in devotion to his family, his faith and his work. He was the beloved husband of Sandy with whom he shared 55 beautiful years, building a life full of deep love, extreme laughter, and unwavering partnership.
In addition to being a devoted husband, Bill was a proud and loving father to his three daughters. He also found immense joy in being a Pappou to his three grandchildren. As an uncle, he had a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews, cherishing each of them and creating lasting memories filled with love and laughter. He leaves behind not only family, but a wide circle of dear friends who were like family to him—his life enriched by the many friendships he built, each one a testament to the man he truly was.
A talented chef by trade, Bill expressed his love through food, bringing people together around the table and creating meals that warmed both the heart and soul. He was especially known for his famous lamb shanks which were a crowd favorite at the Aliquippa Greek Festival, a tradition that became an intrinsic part of that community.
Deeply devoted to his church for many years, Bill passionately shared his voice and spirit in worship for many years. All who knew him knew Bill’s faith was a guiding force and that conviction was contagious. It provided quiet strength to all who knew him.
An avid sports fan of all things Pittsburgh; a lover of the beach/ocean; an entrepreneur and world traveler, Bill was many things to many people. Consequently, his life was enriched by the many friendships he built over the years; each one was a testament to the man he was. For eternity, Bill will be remembered as a man who was kind and always there for the people that he loved. Bill’s legacy is one of faith, strength, and family. As Bill would often say, “We come. We see. We leave.” Bill came into this world; lived a full and loving life and he is now departed. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Stravros and Sophia Economou; daughter Jaime; sister Laskaroula and brother Nicholas.
To cherish his memory, Bill leaves his loving wife Sandy; devoted daughters Stephanie (Daniel) Durant, and Nikki; cherished grandchildren Elianna, Nicco and Zahier; a host of supportive nieces and nephews and a wide circle of dear friends who were like family to him.
