Bertha May, 84, a Moon Township resident, since 1977, formerly of Queens, New York, and Brunswick, Georgia, passed peacefully in the comfort of her home with her sister (Sarah) on Saturday, April 19, 2025.
Bertha was born in Brunswick, Georgia, where she graduated from Risley High School as Valedictorian. After high school, she moved to the City of New York (Queens) and enrolled at Hunter College of New York (New York City), where she obtained her bachelors degree in business finance, with a specialization in accounting.
Bertha worked at Equitable Life (now known as EquiCorp). Bertha was involved with Robin Hill Associates, where she served as secretary. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, needlepointing and traveling. The crafts designed and subsequently created were one of a kind works of art. They have been on display at Tapas in Sewickley, Pennsylvania and sold on consignment.
Bertha is survived by her devoted sister and caregiver Sarah Wellman, nephews Rodney, Rene’ (Jane) and Terrance (Eva), great nephews Jonathon and Tyler and her great niece Gabriella “Gabbie” (fur-family Baron, Blu, Chunk, MacTavish, Tashi, Yuki).
Arrangements are being handled by Copeland Funeral Home. Due to Bertha’s love of animals, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be sent the Humane Society and or Animal Rescue centers of your respective choice.
