Barbara Allen Obituary

Barbara Ellis Allen, 77 of Coraopolis, Pennsylvania entered into eternal rest, March 22, 2024.  A private memorial service will be held at a time and place yet to be determined.

Barbara was born on June 6, 1946, daughter of the late Samuel C. Yahres and Marianne E. Yahres of Coraopolis, Pa.  She enjoyed participating in athletic activities both at Coraopolis High School and the local YMCA.  She attended the Coraopolis Methodist Church where she was active in both local and regional choirs and was active in Youth Fellowship.  Her family and many friends were the center of her life and brought her great joy.  She especially enjoyed family get togethers and never missed the opportunity to celebrate Christmas at her parents’ home well into her 60’s.  Barb’s friends found her to be an attentive listener and good problem solver, who was always looking for the silver lining no matter how dire the situation.  Her sense of humor was brilliant, her laughter infectious and uniquely her own. She worked in a variety of clerical and secretarial positions throughout her life, enjoyed watching Pittsburgh sports, listening to music, especially Oldies, and loved dancing the night away.

Barbara’s childhood friend and author, Jim Anderson, wrote in his autobiography, Profiles, Portraits of Inspiration, his childhood impressions of Barb that might suitably described much of her essence throughout life.

“Barbara Yahres was an enigma to me.  While a boy at ten years is not often inclined to respect little girls, there was something special about Barbara that I couldn’t help but admire.  Smaller than most of the other girls, she had a pixie like quality combined with a tough and fearless nature that demanded admiration.  She was a combination of Dorothy from the ‘Wizard of Oz’ and Tinker Bell from ‘Peter Pan’ . . . iron willed and courageous . . . and full of fun.” (Chapter 4, ‘Dorothy and Tinker Bell’, page 34.)

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Lisa Eberle (Norm), Goose Creek, SC, sons Len Allen, Charleston, SC, Reese Allen, Charleston, SC, Shawn (Mickey) Allen, Tampa, FL,  grandchildren, Jonathan Ruggiero (Sarah), Creede, Colorado, Anthony Bulone, Goose Creek, SC, Sumter Holst, James Island, SC, one great grandchild, Emma Rose Ruggiero; one sister, Marianne Fusco (Tom) Palm Coast, FL, and two brothers, Sam Yahres, Brookline, Pa, and Chuck Yahres (Carmella), Beaufort, SC, as well as her cherished pup, Savannah.

The family would like to thank the staff at Caring Heights Nursing Facility in Coraopolis for their love and support while caring of Barb.
