Austin "Dean" Whiteman, Jr.

Austin “Dean” Whiteman, Jr. 86, of Crescent, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Concordia @ Villa St. Joseph, Baden.  After graduating Moon High School, Dean enlisted in the US Marine Corp, serving during the Korean War, and receiving a National Defense Service Metal.  After his time of service, he went to night school and obtain his certification as a Draftsman.  He continued to serve his community as Crescent Twp Commissioner, Board of Directors for Creswell Heights Water Authority and Crescent Sewage Authority; he proudly held office as President of Crescent Twp Senior Citizens, President of Crescent Twp Fire Dept. Along with being a life-long member of the fire dept, he trained and mentored young members as a part of the Explorers program that taught firefighter skills as well as life skills through camping and fellowship. He volunteered as a Sunday School teacher and greeter at the Glenwillard United Methodist Church.    

He will be remembered and missed by his loving wife of nearly 64 years, Jeanne (Glatz) Whiteman; his four daughters, Susan Selinsky, Renee Whiteman, Lisa (Jay) Meanor and Janice (Eric) Deirdorf; his grandchildren, Amanda Selinsky (Craig Hawthorne), Rachelle (Jimmy) May, Shawn Sible, Joey Shutka (Kristin Aul), Heidi Dierdorf, and Scott (Alexa) Dierdorf; his great-grandchildren, Alex Hawthorne, Caden Sedlock, Emma May, Lillith May, Noah Sible, and Austin Gallagher. 

A heart felt thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Heritage Valley Beaver, Concordia @ Villa St. Joseph and Good Samaritan Hospice for their kind care.

A Memorial will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 11am followed by a light luncheon till 3pm at the Crescent Twp. Fire Hall.  The family has requested donations be made in Dean’s honor to the Crescent Fire Dept.  Arrangements entrusted to Copeland’s Moon Twp.
