Amy Weinstock Obituary

Amy Margaret Weinstock, an active volunteer for the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, died Wednesday, July 10, 2024, of complications from kidney and liver disease. She was 47.

Amy, a 1995 graduate of Moon Area High School, settled in Dravosburg 22 years ago with Reid Smith, her partner in life and love. Together, the couple was passionate about supporting autism charities, the signature mission of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix held annually in Schenley Park. Amy was typically found greeting attendees at the admissions and donations booth on Beacon Street.

“Thousands of patrons every year were greeted by her smiling and glowing face, raising valuable funds for both of our supported charities,” said Dan DelBianco, Executive Director of the PVGP. “She will be missed by all of the volunteers who knew her.”

Amy became friends with Reid while working at the former Kason’s Restaurant, Downtown, where she was “his favorite waitress.” Reid shocked Amy when he invited her on a date to a Pittsburgh Penguins game.

“We were friends at first and we were best friends at the end,” said Smith, 16 years her senior. “The age difference meant nothing to us. The third time my mother met Amy she said to me, ‘Reid, you’ve met your match. She was right.’”

A wide circle of family, friends, and colleagues – hers, his, and theirs – have flooded Facebook with pictures and memories of a woman with doe-eyes, an adventurous spirit, and an outstanding recipe for lobster macaroni & cheese always in demand at the couple’s vacation home at Seven Springs.

While integrating Reid’s family, friends, and interests into her life, Amy maintained an independent spirit. Shortly after meeting Reid, she went back to school to study medical billing and coding. Her career took her to Pittsburgh’s major hospitals and medical practices.

Amy cultivated strong bonds of her own, spending time with her father, Daniel Weinstock, enjoying house and garden tours throughout the region; annually welcoming her Aunt Margaret Weinstock, of Long Island, to watch fireworks from downtown Pittsburgh; and dazzling everyone with her knowledge of the TV show, “Friends.” She spent hours on cross-country calls talking with her mother, Patricia Depew, of Ensenada, Mexico, or older brother, Scott, of Sonoma, CA, with whom she shared a birthday.

In addition to her parents, brother, and aunt, Amy is survived by members of Reid’s family: Joshua, Kelsey, and Sadie Lisa Stolfer, of Stanton Heights.

The Weinstock and Smith families wish to thank the caregivers of Family Hospice for their support. In accordance with Amy’s wishes, there will be no visitation, but a Celebration of Life will be held later. Arrangements are by Copeland Funeral Home in Coraopolis.
