Alfred “Al” William Cleis, most say a perfect gentleman, 96, of Moon Township, formerly of Sheridan, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 31, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Monaca on April 30, 1928, one of seven children to the late George E. and Gladys Mae (Harding) Cleis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his spouses, Bertie (Genders) Cleis and Lois Jane (Rabold) Baile; and his siblings Catherine Seroky, Gladys Woollett, George E. Cleis, Earl F. Cleis, Robert G. Cleis, and Edward J. Cleis. Beloved father of Raymond (Terri) Cleis of Bellaire, Michigan, Gary (Anna Marie) Cleis of Clinton, PA, and Bonnie L. (Thomas) Copeland of Moon Township. Well-loved grandfather of Christy (Joe) Rapoza, Gary Cleis Jr., Michael Cleis, John Cleis, Billy Cleis, Valentine (Melissa) Troy, Garrett Troy and Taylor Troy. His 8 grandchildren will always remember his words of wisdom, treat everyone as you would like to be treated. Great grandfather of Annie, Hailey, Hunter, Payton, Letty, Thomas, and Valentine. Al was a member of the AFL-CIO Local #95 where he had been the Chief Engineer for Chatham and Gateway Centers of Alcoa Aluminum. He retired in 1993. Al served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He was always active enjoying woodworking, fixing things, bowling and fishing. He was a good man who loved his family, his many friends, and his country. As he reflected on his life he would say, “it’s been a good ride”. Visitation Monday 2-4, 6-8 at Copeland’s Moon Township, 981 Brodhead Rd. A private family service will be held at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
