W. Dean Shaffer Willard Dean Shaffer age 85 of Moon Twp. since 1964; passed away June 2, 2018 at Ohio Valley Hospital. He was born in Kennedy Twp. to the late Catherine Galloway and Willard John Shaffer. Dean attended Ohio Wesleyan University and University Of Pittsburgh where he received a BA degree and was employed as a Bank Branch Opener for Mellon Bank. In 1956 Dean enlisted in the Navy and graduated from Officers School as an Ensign and assigned to deep sea diving school after which he was executive officer for 32 months on the USS Hazel and USS Atakapa he was released from active duty in 1959 as a Lieutenant. He was a member of Sharon Community Presbyterian Church, a former member of Men of Sharon Presbyterian Church, member of Crafton-Guyasuta Lodge 513 F&AM, member of Airplane Radio Control ( ARCs ) also a Ski Patrol Instructor. Dean is survived by his wife; June Marlene (Tirk) Shaffer, a daughter; Janet Lynn Shaffer of Moon Twp. a son; Robert Craig (Dina Caputo) Shafer Pickerington OH, 2 grandchildren, Robert John & Marisa Lynn Shaffer. Family will receive friends Tues. 3-9pm at the Copeland Moon Twp. Funeral Home, 981 Brodhead Rd., where a Service will be held Wed. at 11am followed by burial with Naval Military Honors in Coraopolis Cemetery. Members of Crafton-Guyasuta Lodge 513 F&AM will hold a Masonic Service for their late brother on Tuesday at 7:30PM.
