Rosario “Ross” Trunzo, passed on to the Lord’s kingdom, surrounded by his loving family, on November 23, 2019 at the age of 82. Born in Falerna, Italy on September 29, 1937, he was the son of the late Anna and Paolo Trunzo. Rosario immigrated from Falerna, Italy to Coraopolis in 1956, leaving his entire family behind for the American dream. Then proudly becoming an American Citizen. Not knowing that the future love of his life, Elena, was only across the river in Sewickley, Pa. Elena also migrated from Gizzeria, Italy, which was only five miles from his hometown. After being introduced to each other by Tom and Mary Gallo (Elena’s sister), they fell in love and got married in Sewickley Pa, at St. James Church in 1961. They were blessed with three children; Anna (Hector) DeSimone (Robinson), Paul (Michele) Trunzo (Moon Township), and Carolyn (Alan) Handrick (Moon Township). Their family grew to five grandchildren; Giancarlo DeSimone, Anthony DeSimone, Marlena Trunzo, Ross Trunzo, and Victoria Handrick. Rosario Trunzo retired from Shenango Inc., where he worked as a SteelWorker, and was a proud member of the United SteelWorkers union.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Clemento, Catarina, and Elisa.
Although Rosario worked very hard, he was a devoted husband and father who appreciated and loved entertaining his family and friends, and looked forward to gathering the family around the table for dinners on Sunday. He also had a passion and love for his vegetable garden and his homemade wine (vino), both of which were the envy of the neighborhood. Of all the life lessons that Rosario passed on to his children, none were more important to him than his faith in God, love, and family.
Visitation will be held Tuesday November 26 from 2 – 8 PM at Copeland’s Sewickley, 702 Beaver Street, where a gathering will be held Wednesday November 27 at 9 a.m. at Copeland Funeral Home with prayers at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. James Church with Rev. Thomas Burke, celebrant. His final resting place will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Moon Township.
