Raymond Watts

Raymond Watts, age 85, a life-long resident of Moon Township, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at Heritage Valley Sewickley. He was born in Sewickley on September 13, 1933 to the late Clyde and Amelia (Czech) Watts. Raymond met the love of his life, Shirley Funk at McCartney’s Gas Station (Glenwillard), and they married on April 24, 1953. A humble man, loving simple things, Raymond was a wonderful provider for his wife and family, building the family home in 1956. Beloved husband for 66 years of Shirley; loving father of Vicki Lynn Watts Bracy (Roland), Norman Watts (Karen), Tina Marie VanFleet and the late Raymond Watt Jr., special daughter Karen Watts; also, loved like a son Richard Stewart; grandfather of Dane, Elizabeth Donaldson (Brad), Jacob, Kaitlyn, Daniel, Emily, Raymond “RJ” and Mina; also 6 great grandchildren; brother of Helen “Aunt Honey” Thomas. Raymond was retired from Operating Engineers Local 66, as a heavy equipment mechanic. Growing up in Moon, he worked on both the Belle and McCormick Farms. Raymond graduated from Moon High School, was the center for the famous 1950 State Championship Basketball Team (first championship in Moon High School history). He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. A classic car enthusiast, his cousin and best friend, the late Charlie Baronowsky, rebuilt classic cars, the 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk taking first place in Florida competition and the Nash, that was a headliner in England and noted in many competition magazines. Visitation Tuesday 2-4, 6-8 at Copeland’s Moon Township, 981 Brodhead Rd. where service will be held on Wednesday, at 10 AM with Military Honors Following Service at Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations in his name to the American Heart association.
