Welcome to the memorial page for

Jean D. (Dreher) Danforth

January 18, 1925 ~ November 5, 2017 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Jean Dreher Danforth was born on 18 January 1925 in Stamford CT, the only child of Henry Melville Dreher and Eulalee Finney Dreher. As a young girl she loved riding horses, meeting her future husband, Robert Douglas Danforth, at the Laddin Rock Stables. After a USMA wedding at West Point, NY in 1943, Jean traveled the world with Bob as an Army wife for the next 30 years. During their journeys the family grew: Robert Douglas Jr (West Point NY), Nancy Holmes (Tokyo Japan), Margaret Elizabeth (Ft Knox Kentucky), Patricia Martin (Bangkok Thailand), William Henry (Athens Georgia), John Martin (Balboa Canal Zone), and Sarah Jean (Ft Meade Maryland). They eventually settled in Coraopolis PA during Bob’s last military assignment at Oakdale Army Installation - - the house full of children, dogs and cats.

Jean was active with the Oakdale Officers Wives Club, serving as President and then as a member, the Coraopolis Memorial Library, and the Travelers Aid Society at the Pittsburgh International Airport. Her greatest joy was being a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader for many girls in the Coraopolis/Moon Township areas. In her later years, she visited Girl Scouts Troop dressed as Juliette Low, to teach the girls all about the founder of Girl Scouts.

Jean and Bob spent summers in upstate New York with friends they had made over some eighty years. Continuing her love of learning and history she became involved in The Hadley-Luzerne Public Library and the Hadley-Lake Luzerne Historical Society. She and Bob loved their friends in the Adirondacks.

Jean is survived by her seven children, thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Many thanks to her friends, especially Christina McCartney from Baden PA, a wonderful friend, caregiver and considered a member of our family.

The Funeral is scheduled for Saturday 11 November at Copeland Funeral Home, 981 Brodhead Road, Moon Township. Visitation will be Friday 10 Nov from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and Saturday 11 Nov from 3:00 to 5:00 PM with her service at 5:00 PM.
