James R. "Jim" Quinn

James (Jim) R. Quinn, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospice, Beaver Valley Medical Center. Born in Connellsville, PA on March 28, 1927, he was one of four children to the late James and Catherine (Andursky) Quinn. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 31 years, Catherine (Carbonara). In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Kathleen Andyjohn and Patricia Scacchi. Jim is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lois (Klixbull).  Loving father of Mary Kay (Joseph) Loughran, Daniel (Carla) Quinn, Diane (John) Matlak, James P. (Sally) Quinn, Robert (Angela) Quinn and Scott (Lori) Quinn. Stepfather of William, Edward (Deborah), Patrick, and Daniel Trunick, and Mary Restivo. Beloved grandfather of Ryan, Kelly, Daniel and Patrick Loughran, Katie (Sean) O’Neil and Michael Quinn, Paige, Jack, Kennedy and Hilary Quinn, and Zach and Lindsey Quinn; step-grandfather of Joseph and Liana Leja, Jack and Dixon Trunick, and Sidney Restivo.  Also survived by his sister Anna Mary Canada, sisters-in-law Louise (Leonard) Mecco, Carmalee (David) Porter; brothers-in-law Anthony Carbonara, Richard (Rose) Carbonara and many nieces and nephews. Jim was a World War II Navy Veteran elected Honor Man of his company and proudly served on the USS Cole in the Philippine Islands. He received a degree in Chemistry from Duquesne University in 1950 and began a long, successful career in the chemical coatings industry, retiring from Valspar Corporation. Jim was proud of his 40-year tenure as a PIAA referee in the Beaver Valley Chapter, officiating football, basketball, volleyball, and track & field. Jim was an active member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, serving as the parish’s first Eucharistic Minister and a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Jim continued his charitable work as a volunteer and board member at the West Hills Food Pantry in Moon Township. Jim received the Elks Distinguished Citizen Award in recognition of his community services in 2002. His positive outlook, deep faith, and love of family will continue to inspire those who knew him and be a part of us forever. Visitation will be held at Copeland’s Funeral Home, 981 Brodhead Road Moon Township on Friday (11-24) from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday (11-25) at 9:30 AM at St. Margaret Mary in Moon Township (Everyone meet at Church). Burial will be at 2:30 PM at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Connellsville, PA where Naval honors will be accorded. The family suggests donations to the West Hills Food Pantry, 522 Carnot Road, Moon Township.
