Gerard Thompson Sr. Obituary

Gerard “Jerry” Grant Thompson, Sr was born to the late Percy Garfield Thompson and the late Mamie Winona Brooks on October 4, 1927.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, Roland and Anthony, and one sister, Fayette.

Jerry was born in Canonsburg, PA and later moved to Coraopolis, PA where he attended and graduated from Coraopolis High School. In Jerry’s early adulthood, he met and married, the love of his life, Teresa Lynette Edwards of Clanton, Alabama.

Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1967. Jerry was a proud graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a BA in Elementary Education in 1978. Jerry was a member and Trustee of The Coraopolis Church of God In Christ. Jerry served dual terms as Council member on the Coraopolis Borough Council, Coraopolis, PA. Jerry was a member of the Kings and Queens of Africa, McKees Rocks, PA. Jerry was a member of the American Legion Post 450. He was an active participant in all the organizations he joined. After retirement, Jerry later relocated and made a life in Douglassville, GA in May of 2008. He was fondly known by friends and neighbors as “Mr. T.”

Jerry was employed by and later retired from the Pennsylvania American Water Company in September of 2006. Jerry fulfilled his passion to teach and mentor children through volunteerism with little league football teams, girls’ softball teams and often working in the role of a substitute teacher for the Cornell Educational Center, Coraopolis, PA. He loved to fish and hunt in his free time.

Jerry made his transition on June 16, 2019 at WellStar Douglas Hospital, Douglassville, GA. He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Teresa.
