George Hetzer, Jr. Obituary

George Edward Hetzer, Jr., 67, of Moon Township, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 22, 2019. Born in Sewickley, George was a Christmas gift to parents Catherine and George, Sr. in 1951. He had many fond (and mischievous) memories from his early life in Glenwillard, “on the farm” in Moon Township, and at Aunt Marg’s cabin, with his many cousins and four siblings—Kathy Lewis (Joe) of Monaca, Chris Hetzer and Mike Hetzer, both of Ambridge, and Greg Hetzer, who preceded him in death. George graduated in 1970 from Moon Area High School where he met his wife of 43 years, Debra (Wood) Hetzer. George had a passion for music and guitars. He performed with several bands and loved to join in on local jam nights or family sing alongs. In recent years, he spent his time fixing up the vintage amps and guitars that he collected. George began his career in the shipyard at Dravo on Neville Island. He then went on to become a skilled telecommunications technician at Mobile Radio, PittComm, Crown Castle, and Staley Communication.  He was  a go-to guy for anyone who needed a car, television, or computer to be fixed. Despite his illness, George never lost his ability to make people laugh with his quick wit. He also had a more serious reflective nature. “We often take for granted the selfless capacity of a mother’s love and the healing power it has on a child or a man’s soul,” he wrote years earlier in a poem to his wife, Debbie, who cared for him until his final moments.  “As a grown man, I now can understand and see one of God’s greatest gifts, motherhood.” George is survived by his beloved children, George Edward Hetzer, III of Moon Township and his daughter Elizabeth Hetzer and son-in-law Max Rosenberg of Brooklyn, NY, a future grandchild, and many nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle George.  The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to all who cared for George during his illness.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 29 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Copeland’s Moon Township, 981 Brodhead Rd, where a blessing service will be held on Wednesday, October 30 at 10 AM. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Moon Township.
