Frederick Dale Gass

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our husband and father, F. Dale Gass, 93, on June 28, 2018 from complications of pneumonia. He was lovingly surrounded by his entire family throughout his last weeks. 

Born September 29, 1924, in Moon Twp., he was the oldest child of Fred H. and Ida Belle Irwin Gass.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 26 years, Patricia Hartenbach Gass and his brother John “Jack” Gass (Barbara).  He is survived by Dottie Mercer Gass, his devoted wife of 32 years, who has been a blessing to his family, his three daughters, Pamela Johnson Fries, Tracey Gass Ranze (Michael), Greta Gass Penn (Michael) and his brother G. Graham Gass (Gloria), 10 grandchildren, Kurt Johnson (Caitlin), Gwenna Johnson Brubaker (Matthew), Rebecca Johnson Boyd (Jeffrey), Cole Ranze (Song Yue), Leif Ranze, Sage Ranze, Skye Ranze, Hayden Penn, Miranda Penn, Garrett Penn and 3 great grandchildren, Ruth Johnson, Eli Ranze, Lia Ranze.

A chiropractor to the core, Dale practiced his vocation for over 55 years, until the age of 83. Throughout his long life Dale was a veteran of WWII and the Korean war, a Rotarian, a voracious reader, and a local historian with a kaleidoscope of other interests - flying, model trains, sports, photography, gardening, piano and savoring time with his family.  Sharon Community Presbyterian Church was his faith-home for his entire life, where he served as a Deacon, an Elder and Sunday School Superintendent for decades. 

Most importantly, he was a loving, steadfast presence to his family.

Friends will be received on Sunday, July 1, 12:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm at R. D. Copeland Funeral Home, Moon Township, 981 Brodhead Road, Moon Township, PA 15108.  Funeral services will be held at Sharon Community Presbyterian Church, 522 Carnot Road, Moon Township, PA 15108 on July 2 at 10:00am, with internment to follow at Sharon Community Presbyterian Church cemetery.
