Daphne A. Benn

Daphne A. Benn, 93, of Moon Township passed away peacefully on December 26, 2019. Born in Georgetown, Guyana, formerly British Guyana, on November 15, 1926 she was the daughter of the late Henrietta and Prince Jones. Daphne worked as a secretary in the Pediatric Unit of Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York City for over 25 years. Upon her retirement in 1991, she made her home in Coraopolis, which was a breath of fresh air with wide open landscapes compared to life in New York. Daphne was very active in Grace Anglican Church and enjoyed volunteering for the community in many ways, one of which was Meals on Wheels. She was fortunate enough to have visited Greece and Israel with her church, walking the steps of St. Paul while in Greece.

Daphne is survived by her children Desiree Griffith (Monte) and Lockhart Hamlin (Sherry); grandchildren Ali Griffith and Cherisse Wilson (Terry); great-grandchildren Miles, Monte, Mason, and Cullen; sister Joyce Lynn Newport (Roy) and nieces and nephews Colin, Joslyn, Jennifer, Abigail, Roland, and Alex. Daphne was preceded in death by her beloved husband Henry Benn and her sister Sybil Rouget.

Visitation will be Sunday December 29 at Copeland’s Coraopolis, 867 Fifth Avenue from 2:00 – 4:00 PM, followed by a service at 4:00 PM. Rev. Chance Perdue officiating.
