Fred Iacozza Obituary

Fred P. Iacozza, age 101, of Moon Township died on Saturday, March 16, 2024. He was born on November 12, 1922, in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Joseph and Crescenza Iacozza. Beloved husband of the late Grace Iannacchione Iacozza; loving father of Beverly (the late Robert) Stepp and her twin sister, Marlene (the late Ronald) Culver; dear grandfather of David (Kayon) Culver, Robert Stepp and Jennie (Victor) Yates; great grandfather of Victoria, Alexandria, and Theodore; brother of the late Dominick Iacozza.  Fred went to Connelly Vocational High School in the Hill District and then worked for Mine Safety Appliance for 3 years as a milling machine operator and then was drafted into the U. S. Army in 1942. After basic training, he became an ammunition handler. He served throughout eastern Europe from France to Czechoslovakia with the 5th Infantry and was even involved in the liberation of 2 concentration camps during his tour or service. Fred served as an Italian interpreter in a hospital in France as well. He was a recipient of the Good Conduct medal, the American Theater ribbon, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater ribbon, the World War Victory Medal, and the Army Occupation medal. After the war, he met the love of his life, Grace, and they married and had twins, Beverly and Marlene while living in Bloomfield. They were members of the Immaculate Conception Church where Fred served as an usher for 40 years. Fred eventually went to work for the U. S. Post Office. He worked his way up to being a supervisor and training officer and retired after 33 years. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, the Italian American War Veterans, and the VFW, where he held the office of Vice-Commander. Fred was also an accomplished musician and enjoyed playing the drums, electric bass guitar and the harmonica. In 2018, he moved in with his daughter Marlene in Moon Township, residing there for 6 years. Friends will be received at R. D. Copeland, Inc., 981 Brodhead Road, Moon Township on Tuesday from 2 – 4 & 6 – 8 pm where a Funeral Prayer will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 am following by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret Mary Church at 10 am. Burial will follow in the Allegheny Cemetery will military honors.
