Dolly Simons Obituary

Dolly Lee Simons, 91, died  April 3  at Concordia at Villa St. Joseph in Baden PA.

Mrs. Simons was born in Shadyside, Ohio to the late Dorsey and Naomi (Hess) Hartline. She was a 1950 graduate of Shadyside High School and a Sewickley, PA resident since 1957. She worked as a travel consultant for 28 years retiring in 1999. During her career she specialized in overseas independent tour arrangements and made in excess of 60 overseas trips visiting at least 50 countries on 5 continents.

            She was a member of the North Pittsburgh Quilt Guild and was an avid quilter. She produced more than 20 quilts along with many wall hangings. She won many awards including the  “Best Hand Quilt” blue ribbon at the 1996 Quilts in the Park Show in Pittsburgh. Most of her work was given to children, grandchildren, and friends.

            She was a member of Shields Presbyterian Church and later, after they merged, The Presbyterian Church in Sewickley. At Shields she sang in the choir, taught church school, and was active in the Women’s Association serving as president.

            She was active in many community organizations including Sewickley Garden Club, Generation Together at Edgeworth elementary, and the Sewickley chapter of American Field service where she served as secretary and vice-president.

            She was preceded in death by her husband Stephen J. Simons who died in 2018. She is survived by her son The Rev. Dr. James B. Simons (Sandy) of Vero Beach  and her daughter Stephanie J. O’Kane of Edgeworth, seven grandchildren, Zachary (Laura), Jeanne, and Lindsey (Ryan) Simons, Christina (Keith), Ryan (Aislin), Michael, and Jocelyn  (Brady) O’Kane and two greatgrandchildren Cian and Sean.

            There will be no visitation. Service will be held at The Presbyterian Church in Sewickley Friday, April 12 at 11AM
