Allan Paul Knoch

Allan Paul Knoch, 85, of Freedom, Pa passed peacefully on April 18, 2024.

Allan was born in Pittsburgh, Pa on July 18, 1938, to Elmer Glade Knoch and Sarah Esther Reidenbaugh.  He grew up on Pittsburgh’s North Side and studied civil engineering at Carnegie Institute of Technology, becoming the first member of his family to earn a college degree in 1960.

Allan met Hannelore Steeger while serving at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, and the couple was married on November 10, 1962.  They resided in Pittsburgh until 1968 before moving with their two children to Northern Virginia.  He worked for the US Army Corps of Engineers in Washington, DC until retiring in 1996.  In addition to gardening, stamp and coin collecting, he enjoyed travel, photography, and retracing the family’s history through genealogy during his retirement.

Allan is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Hannelore Knoch; children, David Allan Knoch and Nancy Lorraine Smith; grandchildren, Michael Norman Knoch (Amanda), Kristin Michelle Knoch, Jesse Alan Smith (Natasha Weyant) and Miranda Nicole Knoch.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sara Lee White.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, April 22, 2024 between 2:00-4:00 pm at R.D. Copeland Funeral Home, 867 5th Avenue, Coraopolis, Pa 15108. 

Service and burial will be private.
