William DanielsDecember 12, 1925 ~ October 7, 2017 (age 91)
William (Bill) Daniels age 91 of Sewickley passed away comfortably with his family at his side on Sat. Oct. 7, 2017.Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marian “Babe” Gerlach Daniels also survived by his three sons; Bill (Jean), Bob (Regina), and Dan (the late Susan) Daniels, four grandchildren; David, Sean, Kelly and Lindsey. Bill was born in McKees Rocks “Bottoms” the youngest of eight children to George and Catherine Daniels. He served in the Navy from 1944-1946 during WW II and upon completion of his Military Obligation attended Slippery Rock University under the GI Bill. He became the first and only member of his family to get a College Degree. Bill came home after graduation and started his 35-year career as a High School Teacher and Coach at McKees Rocks High, and later he held similar positions for Neville Island and Avalon High Schools. His players would remember that he seldom raised his voice and did his very best to set an example for them of good sportsmanship. During retirement Bill loved spending time with his grand kids, golfing with his buddies from church and taking trips to Deep Creek, New England and the National Parks with his wife and family. Bill was always up for an adventure but he also enjoyed the simple things in life like dutifully chauffeuring Babe around on frequent local shopping trips, heartily laughing at jokes from his favorite sister in law Ann, proudly watching his sons play sports, patiently teaching his grand kids how to water ski and routinely finishing off each day with a smile on his face after devouring a big bowl of vanilla ice cream. He also served as an Elder for the Kenmawr U.P. Church and enjoyed frequently running into his many former students and players throughout the Pittsburgh area who always seemed just as happy to see him. His ever-present smile and bright blue eyes will be missed by everyone who knew him. Per Family Wishes Services will be private for Bill. Arrangements by Copeland Sewickley Funeral Home.
