Russell R. Mixter, age 94 of Coraopolis went to be with the Lord July 1, 2017, with his loving family at his side. He was born in Hopewell Twp. on Jan. 29, 1923, to the late Lou Kennedy Mixter & John Thomas Mixter. Russell, a self-employed contractor was a WW II Army Veteran, and the legend of his service in Ponce, Puerto Rico, lives on in the many stories he recounted.  He was a member of the First Coraopolis Baptist Church, VFW Post 402, and the American Legion Post. He enjoyed playing the organ, woodworking, and would light up any room with his jokes and good friend, Keebo Fusky. Russ is survived by his loving wife Helen Filakousky Mixter, three children: Christine McGinley of Crescent. Russell (Donna) Mixter of Moon Twp., Kenneth (Beth) Mixter of Aliquippa, four grandchildren; Constance & David McGinley, Brianna McCracken, Bethann Erdos; two great grandchildren; Brinley McCracken & Gavin McGinley, and one brother, Stanley (Grace) Mixter of Wampum and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by four sisters; Marie Zimmerman, Iva Merriman, Florence Keller, Mabel Nolte and two brothers; Leonard & William “Bud” Mixter. Friends will be received Wed. 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Copeland Moon Twp. Funeral Home, 981 Brodhead Rd. Additional viewing will be Thursday from 10AM until time of Service at 11AM at the First Baptist Church of Coraopolis, 1443 Coraopolis Heights Rd. Burial with full Military Honors will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, you can send donations to the First Baptist Church of Coraopolis, 1443 Coraopolis Heights Road. Members of VFW Post 402 will hold a Service Wed. at 7 PM at the Funeral Home.
