Nancy P. (Atwood) Hutchinson

September 6, 1931 ~ November 30, 2017 (age 86) 86 Years Old

Nancy P. (Atwood) Hutchinson, affectionately known as Nurse Nancy, age 86 and a Sewickley resident since 1963, passed away at Masonic Village of Sewickley on Thursday, November 30, 2017. She was born in Springfield, Mass., on September 6, 1931, to the late Elbridge L. and Alexandria Beryl (Colquhoun) Atwood. Nancy grew up in Abington, Mass., but spent two years in Lima, Peru, as a young child while her father, an architect, designed the city hospital. On August 29, 1953, she married her beloved husband, John W. Hutchinson, who passed on August 16, 2003. They had two cherished daughters, Holly J. (Bill) Hollett of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Caron (Tom) Pawlicki of Marysville, Pa.  Nancy was the grandmother of Charissa (Josh) Mackaluso, Anna (Jordan) Carney, Julia (Rio) Vale, Douglas Hollett, Corey (Amy) O’Neil and Bryan O’Neil; great grandmother of Adam, Magnus and Lydia; and sister of David (Imme) Atwood of Dornach, Switzerland.

Nancy obtained her BSN from the University of Pittsburgh, interning at Allegheny General Hospital. She went on to work as an RN at Sewickley Valley Hospital and later as a visiting nurse in the Pittsburgh area. Nancy was a longtime member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Pittsburgh where she served on the Altar Guild. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and drove for Faith in Action. An avid cribbage player, Nancy also enjoyed the more active pursuits of golf, tennis, and sailing. She and her husband were both members of the Beaver Valley Country Club and the Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio. Nancy and John loved to travel and made several trips to Europe, the British Isles and Canada.

Nancy requested cremation. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 4:30 PM at Christ Episcopal Church, 5910 Babcock Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15237. The Rev. Canon James Shoucair will officiate. Private burial will be later in Massachusetts.
