Mary Cummings Callahan, 88, a Coraopolis resident most of her life, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Warren, OH on June 14, 1927 to the late Washington Earl and Georgia Margretta (Scott) Caldwell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her spouses James Gordon Cummings and Charles J. Callahan, two sons James and Daniel Cummings and her sister Alice Thompkins. Beloved and cherished mother of John “Jack” Cummings (Kathaleen) of Keller, VA, Linda Walker (John) of Neville Island and David Cummings of Sewickley; cherished grandmother of John, Shannon, Jennifer and Dustin; step-grandmother of Rachel Davin and Patricia Walker; proud great grandmother of Chase, Max, William, Demi, Ares, Gavin, Kody, and Esme; sister of Georgia Britton of Inglewood, FL and Washington Earl “Butch” Caldwell, Jr. (Janet) of Orlando, FL; her well-loved little Brindle Dachshund Gretchen. Mary was a devout member of the Presbyterian Church of Coraopolis where she served as an Elder and a former choir member. She was the first woman Commissioner on Neville Island, member of Sewickley O.E. S. and Neville Green, where she had been a former secretary. She was a 1945 graduate of Moon High School. Working hard all of her life, she had worked as a waitress for Eddie’s Lunch and Berardi’s and retired from U.S. Airways as a reservationist. Mary was a phenomenal gardener and had a love for nature. Please join family and friends at the Presbyterian Church of Coraopolis, 1201 Fifth Ave., Coraopolis, PA 15108 for memorial visitation from 1 PM until time of service at 2 PM.
