Marion Allison McConnell McCormick of Moon Township died January 11, 2018, in Bel Air, MD. She was the daughter of the late Marion Waddell and Frank B. McConnell, and widow of J. Franklin McCormick, who predeceased her in June of 2016. Marion was born in Pittsburgh on February 12, 1920. The family moved to Coraopolis in 1926, where Marion attended elementary schools and graduated from Coraopolis High School. She earned a BA degree in economics from Bucknell University, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. After graduation she worked Dravo Corporation until she married John Franklin McCormick on December 25, 1942. As Lt. McCormick was in the Air Force, they lived in Myrtle Beach, SC, Hopkinsville, KY, and Dyersburg, TN, until Lt. McCormick was deployed to the CBI Theater in World War II, where he remained for three years. During this time Marion served as a volunteer at the Ration Board, and worked at Pittsburgh Des Moines and Standard Steel Companies. After the war they built a home on the McCormick Farm in Coraopolis, where they reared their family until they moved into the McConnell home to care for her widowed mother. Marion was active at the Presbyterian Church of Coraopolis, serving as Ruling Elder for nine years, Sunday School Teacher, member of the Choir, and President of the Women’s Association. Later she served alongside her husband as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was also President of Church Women United for many years, and held many offices in AAUW and the DAR, the former as their last President and the latter as ex Regent and a State Officer and was also Past Regent of the DAC. Marion is survived by four children: Allison (Bob) Wenzel, Cincinnati, OH; Lynn (Jack) Carlson, of Bel Air, MD; Jack (Trudy) McCormick, of St. Peters, MO, and Betsy (Mary Almy) McCormick of Bloomsburg, PA; six grandchildren: John (Ginger) Carlson, of Tempe, AZ; Jeffrey Wenzel, of Cincinnati, OH; Robin (Mike) Godat, of St. Peters, MO; Kimberly (Keith) Peterson, of Fort Sill, OK; Allison (Bernhard) Yutesler, of Columbia, MD, and Amy Carlson, of Perry Hall, MD; seven great-grandchildren: Noah Wenzel, Tyler and Addyson Godat, Seth, Chelsi and Colton Peterson, and James and Christopher Carlson.Services for Marion McCormick will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at the Presbyterian Church of Coraopolis, with Rev. Thomas Petrovsky presiding. Also participating will be Rev. Dr. Elizabeth McCormick, Rev. John V. Carlson and Rev. Amy Carlson. The family will receive visitors from 7 to 9 Tuesday, January 16 at Copeland’s Funeral Home in Coraopolis, and from 10 to 11 Wednesday at the Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Presbyterian Church of Coraopolis.
