Died peacefully in his home in Moon Township, PA (age 75) on Monday, July 31, 2017. He was born in Republic, PA on November 23, 1941, the only child of the late George and Matilda Shubert. He married the love of his life, Donna (Buccilli) Shubert, and they had a wonderful life of 42 years together. Loving father of Allison (Shawn) Freeman of Bridgeville, PA, Lauren (Scott) Mulvaney of Harleysville, PA, Kevin (Lanae) Shubert of Tiona, PA and Jeffrey Shubert of Youngsville, PA; adoring grandfather of Samantha and Emily Freeman, and Christopher Dobbin. John was a proud graduate of Redstone High School Class of 1959, Republic, PA. John was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. After 36 years of service, he retired from the 911th Airlift Wing as a Maintenance Superintendent. John had been a Flight Engineer and Crew Chief on the C-124 aircraft, and had also been on maintenance teams for C-123 and C-130 aircraft. He was a Chief Master Sergeant in the Air Force Reserves, serving during Desert Shield and participating in missions all over the world including Panama and Germany. John was a member of both the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. One of his favorite pastimes was taking his Thunderbird to car cruises with the Pitt Birds Thunderbird Club. John enjoyed being a handyman and working around his house, loved watching sports, going to concerts and on long car trips with his wife. He also enjoyed walks, Soduku puzzles, oldies music and a good beer. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends and was a dedicated “Pap” to his grandchildren. Visitation Thursday 6-8 PM and Friday 2-4, 6-8 PM at Copeland’s Moon Township, 981 Brodhead Rd. where prayers will be recited on Saturday at 8:30 AM followed by Mass at St. Margaret Mary Church at 9 AM. Father Frank Kurimsky celebrant. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery with full Military Honors.
