James “Sam” Hitt, age 76, of Moon Township, formerly of Coraopolis and Glenwillard passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 2, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was born in Sewickley on August 9, 1940 to the late Charles and Helen (Keim) Hitt. Sam married the love of his life, Dolores “Dee” (Balmos) Hitt, on August 9, 1963. They had three well-loved sons, James Henry, David James, Timothy James (Angie) Hitt; and seven cherished grandchildren: Katy Rose, Adam, Jacob, Samuel, Josh, Madison and Zoey; beloved brother of Lois (Bob) Smith; and last but not least, her beloved Shitzu, Molly who walked with him everywhere. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 7 siblings: Grace Karas, Dorothy Weisner, Ruth O’Rourke, Jack, Richard, Eddie and Bob Hitt. Jim attended Mass every Sunday, was a member of St. Joseph Church and was retired from Duer Spring Factory. Colorful flowers were all blooming in his well-cared for garden. Sam, liked by all he met, was easy to talk to, would do anything for others and had the ability to set people at ease instantly. He will be remembered as a family man who loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. Visitation Thursday 2-4, 6-8 at Copeland’s Coraopolis, 867 Fifth Ave. where prayers will be recited on Friday at 9:00 AM followed by Mass at 9:30 AM. Father Richard Jones, celebrant. Burial will be private at Coraopolis Cemetery.
