Howard "Howie" A. Harris, Jr., age 63, a quiet, mild-mannered, gentle man, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 05, 2017 at Allegheny General Hospital. He was born in Sewickley on August 29, 1953, the only son of the late Clara B. (Quarles) and Howard A. Harris, Sr. Howard was a 1971 graduate of Coraopolis High School where he excelled in Track, Field and Cross Country. In 1975, he graduated from Slippery Rock University with a B.S. in Elementary Education. Shortly after graduating from College, he became a substitute teacher in the Cornell School District. He was employed by U.S. Airways where he was a dedicated employee until his retirement. He was an avid fisherman, and would often accompany his father to Racoon State Park where they would spend countless hours fishing. He loved bowling with family and friends. Howard loved sports especially watching the Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins. Howard was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and member of the Men’s Ministry. His memories will always be cherished by his family. Beloved nephew of Sarah V. Munger (the late Cornelius, Sr.) and Thelma Quarles (the late Robert Jr.); cherished cousin of Robert Quarles III (Sharon), Dwight Quarles (Cecelia), John Quarles (Ethel), Edward Morris (Donna), Roderick Morris (Shelly), Belinda Miller (Marvin), Nathaniel Lockett (Mariam), Stanley Munger (April Hurd), Doreen Storey (Nurel) and Kathleen Quarles; also, a host of other cousins, relatives and friends. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 from 12 Noon until time of Memorial Service at 1 PM at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Rev. Michael Peterson will preside.
