Henry M. Longerman, Jr., a life-member of the Moon Township and Library Volunteer Fire Department, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Allegheny General Hospital at the age of 84. He was the only child of Mildred M. (Young) and Henry M. Longerman, Sr., born in Pittsburgh on December 13, 1932.On November 30, 2014, he was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Audrey A. (Gunnell) Longerman. Beloved father of Elaine (William) Combs of Houston, TX, Robert Longerman of Hopewell and Ken (Heather) Longerman of Aliquippa; cherished grandfather of 7. Henry was employed by TWA for over 43 years. Moving from the South Hills, Henry made Moon Township his home in 1970 and proudly served in both of their volunteer fire departments. He was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church where he had been a choir member. From 1953-1959, he served in the U.S. Army. He loved volunteering for the Pittsburgh Make a Wish Foundation and they found the perfect position of greeter for him. His airport background and hospitality was welcomed by the Make a Wish Families, where they were placed in his care from their arrival to their departure. Visitation Saturday 2-4, 6-9 and Sunday 1-4 at Copeland’s Moon Township, 981 Brodhead Rd. with further visitation on Monday at 10:30 AM until time of service at 11:30 AM at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 987 Beaver Grade Rd. A short service by the Moon Township Volunteer Fire Department will be on Saturday at 7 PM. Burial will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Family welcomes flowers or if desired, donations in his name to Make a Wish Foundation.
