Gertrude B. "Trudy" Etters

The Lord saw she was growing tired, so he put his arm around her and said, "Come live with me.

Gertrude Bethel "Trudy" Etters, 88 of Moon Township, PA passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 in the Good Samaritan Hospice in Wexford, PA after a short illness.

Born January 16, 1929 in Akron, Ohio to the late Walter Franklin Hall and Leora McKinley (Miller) Hall she grew up in Coraopolis, Pa where she met and married the love of her life, Joseph Edmund "Ed" Etters.

In addition to her husband of 66 wonderful years, Ed, she leaves behind her loving children to cherish her memory, daughter Debra A. Lewis and husband, Dennis of Crescent Township and son, Thomas K. Etters and wife, Patricia of Neville Island; four loving grandchildren, Drew E. Lewis and wife, Janis, Erin Dusch and husband James, "JJ", Douglas R. Lewis, and Lauren Brant and husband Adam; five cherished great-grandchildren, Connor, Hayden, Ella, Tanner and Morgan. Trudy also leaves behind a treasured friend, Eileen Etters.

Trudy graduated from Coraopolis High School in 1947 and Slippery Rock College in 1951 where she majored in health science and physical education with a minor in social studies. She also earned her master’s degree from Penn State University. Trudy was a beloved educator, teaching for a short time in North Hills before raising her children. After returning to teaching she was a long-term substitute teacher in the Coraopolis School District and then was employed by the Moon Area School District as a physical education teacher for 26 years, retiring in 1994. She enjoyed working with young people and served as coach of the girl’s swim team and cheerleader sponsor for several years. When out and about in the area she often saw former students, who were delighted to see her and expressed appreciation for her kindness and caring in the classroom and gym.

Trudy was a member of the former Greystone Presbyterian Church in Coraopolis where she served as the superintendent of Sunday and summer vacation Bible school. She was also active in the community as a member of the Coraopolis Junior Women’s Club and served a term as president. Recently, she was a member of the Riverdale United Presbyterian Church in Moon Township.

Trudy enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid reader. Her fondest times were at Avalon New Jersey and Sunset Beach North Carolina where she created many wonderful memories with her family.

Friends will be received Saturday and Sunday 2-4, 6-8 at Copeland's Moon Township, 981 Brodhead Rd. where service will be held on Sunday at 7:30 PM. Rev. Christopher Derick, celebrant.
