Dennis R. Burholt, PhD., age 73, of O’Hara Township, a quiet intellectual, passed away at home peacefully in his sleep on Monday, August 1, 2016. He was born in New York City on September 22, 1942 to the late Robert and Ann (Schmidt) Burholt. Beloved husband of Sandra Etzel; loving father of Gregory (Tammy) Burholt and Brian Burholt; proud grandfather of Isabella, Alayna, Olivia and Elijah Blue; brother of Warren Burholt and his late infant sister Laura; his supportive friend Romilda “Ronnie” Sines. Dennis obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Adelphi University on Long Island and went on for his PhD in Botany from the University of Florida at Gainesville. He worked in cancer and biological research for Allegheny General Hospital and had many published research articles. He enjoyed volunteering at Phipps Conservatory and Beechwood Farms. He loved to read, play golf and was an avid New York Yankee’s Fan. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 10 AM at Sewickley Cemetery.
