David F. Black

November 28, 1935 ~ March 9, 2017 (age 81) 81 Years Old


David Fulton Black, long time resident of Sewickley, PA, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2017 at the age of 81 surrounded by family.  David was born on November 28, 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio to Fredonia Frazer Black (born Grace Fredonia Frazer) and Robert Fager Black.  He attended the University School in Cleveland, Ohio (grades K through 12) and graduated in 1953.  He went on to earn a mechanical engineering degree from Princeton University in 1957 and an MBA from Northwestern University in 1959.

David went to work for United States Steel in 1959 and continued with them in various management capacities until 1983.  In 1984 he gained his Certified Financial Planning designation, joined Chaplin Mullaugh Incorporated and spent the next 19 years doing personal financial planning.

David served on various non-profit boards and committees over his lifetime, including the Sewickley Valley Hospital, The Cursillo Movement, the Episcopal and Anglican Dioceses and Shepherd’s Heart Fellowship.  He also served as the music and worship leader at Epiphany Church in Bellevue, PA for over 10 years where he played the guitar which he loved.  After Epiphany Church closed, David returned to worship at St. Stephens Church in Sewickley, PA.

David was married to Patricia Joan Fox of Amarillo, Texas from 1957 until their divorce in 1973.  He then married Ann Gibson Henderson in 1973.  Ann passed away in 1995.

David is survived by daughters Karen Black Meredith of Santa Fe, NM, Heather Black Procaccino of Yardley, PA, and Chase Henderson Miller of Rochester, NY, grandchildren Kyle Procaccino, Julia Procaccino, Hunter Ann Legg, Aaron Miller and Isaiah Miller, sons-in-law Robin Curtis Meredith, Len Procaccino and James P. Miller and his sister, Barbara Black Yeomans of Cleveland, Ohio. 

David enjoyed skiing and hiking, being active in men’s fellowship hosting a small men’s prayer group in his home continually since 1985, visiting his three daughters and five grandchildren and travel, especially cruising.

There will be a memorial service for David at St. Stephens Church in Sewickley, PA on April 8, 2017 at 2:00 pm, with a reception for family and friends to follow.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David’s name to Shepherd's Heart Fellowship, 13 Pride Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.  Telephone: 412-281-1305.   Announcement by Copeland’s of Sewickley
